The dinner held in the hallowed Long Room at Lord's Cricket Grounds in London
was a huge success. The Governor of the Southern Province of Sri Lanka made a keynote speech. Lakhi Liyanage President of
the Sri Lankan Cavaliers of Great Britain made a stirring address he appealed to NGOs, charities who raised money for the
tsunami to provide information as to how much money went to aid the victims of the Boxing Day tsunami in Sri Lanka. Mr.Liyanage
announced the setting up of a charity to aid the tsunami victims.
The Master of Ceremonies at the function at Lord's was Ivan Corea. The singer/songwriter
Nimal Mendis released a special CD in aid of the tsunami victims that night. It was a grand occasion enjoyed by all.
The Governor of the Southern Province of Sri Lanka was batting for the victims
of the tsunami all day on Saturday 29th October 2005. The Sri Lankan Cavaliers organised a press conference and media reception
at the Sri Lanka High Commission in London where the Governor gave an uptodate analysis of the post tsunami reconstruction
in Sri Lanka. The Governor and Lakhi Liyanage also met a British student delegation. News of the press conference was flashed
around the world.
