The Sri Lankan Cavaliers was the brain child of the business entrepreneur Lakhi Liyanage. It is a charitable cricket
organisation and has raised funds for the progress of the game in the island of Sri Lanka. It has developed into a club as
well as a charity.
Membership is by invitation. The Cavaliers was launched by Lakhi Liyanage over 20 years ago in the United Kingdom.
The first Sri Lankan Cavaliers Tour of the UK was organised by Lakhi Liyanage in 1993 - the the team was led by Arjuna Ranatunga. Immediately
after Arjuna Ranatunga and the Sri Lankan team defeated Australia in Lahore in 1996 and were crowned World Champions of Cricket
they visited the UK and played as the Cavaliers Team on a private tour.
The Sri Lankan Cavaliers of Great Britain have organised several fund raising dinners including a dinner at the House
of Commons in the Palace of Westminster.
